And so is RT-Mart, 大润发, the largest grocery store chain in the country!
As a self-declared grocery retail nerd, one of the first things I do when I land in a new country is dive straight into its supermarkets—both local gems and big international names
As American WALMART was explored in Beijing, local RT MART (formerly Auchan, now owned by DCP Capital), the biggest chinese supermarket chain, was at the top of the list
This Chinese Hypermarket was such a wonderful SURPRISE 😊
As soon as you step into this Supercenter, you enter a world of RETAIL EXCELLENCE
Alleys are LARGE, READABLE and COZY
Products are PERFECTLY well-displayed
AMAZING self-service options
Decoration is SUPER LOVELY
Signage is BILINGUAL
Events are PERFECTLY theatricalized
Promotions are very COMPETITVE
And this comes on top of an outstanding product discovery
Many local options, some are even unknown to Westerners
As well as lots of International brands, super interesting to discover the ones sold in China, and the special flavors for this market
It is for sure one of the MOST INTERESTING shopping experiences to have in the Middle Kingdom

Creating a positive and motivating atmosphere for buying is key
They are managing this very well by theatricalizing shelves and sections

They can even choose to sacrifice some selling shelf space and replace products with decorations that bring life to an otherwise boring shelf 😉
