Don Don Donki is one of the most amazing retail concepts worldwide
In Hong Kong, where there are around 10 locations, each store needs to find its own identity! We wanted to share this store as it uses a unique approach: the eclectic one
Instead of following a single theme from start to finish, like HK’s Mira Place, the theme keeps changing as we move through the store
It’s an evolving and very interesting journey

What’s interesting with this store is that it offers 2 entrances

The store map itself adds another universe! Its neon, playful style is not reflected everywhere inside the store, except near the entrance. This contrast reinforces the idea of an eclectic experience, where atmospheres keep changing
A Playful Start
This entrance begins with the non-food section, in a bright, colorful, neon-lit universe. The journey opens with kawaii products — a familiar starting point in some Don Don Donki stores
What makes this entrance different is something far less common: a price machine, where you can try your luck to win items

The Classic Don Don Donki Universe
As part of the store’s evolution, we start with a classic Don Don Donki experience, decoration mainly comes from the shelves and the ceiling, setting the tone without going too far
In a few areas, there are some extra touches, like in the Pet section
In the toy section, Donpen appears hanging near Tomica cars, holding a race flag
There’s also a large bath balls area, well presented with a dedicated fixture and clean decoration around it
The fun sock wall, a wide selection of playful, colorful socks, is something that we love at Donki’s
Another landmark at Don Don Donki is the adult product area.
Here, it’s placed in an amazingly funny spot, right between pet food and toys…

Entering the Adventure
Before stepping into the next zone, the tone is already set. Donpen, dressed like an adventurer, is waiting at the junction of the 2 sections
The second entrance, which leads directly into this area, follows the same theme, with Donpen and Donko dressed in adventurer / explorer style
As we move into the fresh produce section, decoration clearly steps up.
Fruits are displayed under hanging apples and grapes, with a large apple-tree-style centerpiece in the middle
A bit further, the seafood section goes even further, with bold Japanese-themed decoration, packed with signs and nets
This is also where animals start to appear, like the turtle on the top left
The Japanese theme continues in the next area, the grocery & Frozen section, with torii gates and a Japanese castle clearly inspired by Osaka Castle
The Japanese style doesn’t stop there, as the store keeps its playful Don Don Donki spirit with graphic ads and fake fish cans hanging from the ceiling
Animals quietly join the scene here as well, with an owl keeping an eye on the aisle
Welcome to the Jungle
Here we reach the final tier of the store, where the theme goes even further than the jungle. Beyond Cockatoos, Lions & Tigers
you’ll also encounter Polar Bears, Panda and even jellyfish
To push the store’s eclectic side even further, an orcas attacking a shark is used to promote sake
To continue with the over-the-top Don Don Donki style, elsewhere, an orca is also going after an octopus
This unexpected mix pushes the experience further and reinforces the eclectic nature of the store
The Final Soft Touch
To wrap up the journey, the beauty & cleaning section brings things back to a calmer Don Don Donki style. Standing shelves, a classic layout, and plenty of hanging signs define the space
One element stands out — a rotating carousel above the aisle
Eclectic Donpen
To truly complete the store visit, it’s impossible not to mention all the Donpen disguises scattered throughout the store
You’ll spot him as a Mario-style character, enjoying beer, slurping noodles, or even dressed as a farmer alongside Donko
To give a quick sense of the store layout, it’s also worth looking at a typical aisle and shelf setup. Even practical areas like the freezer section keep a light layer of decoration, mixing clear category signage with playful visuals, without overwhelming the products
Seasonal Highlight
In this particular store, there is a huge seasonal zone right next to the entrance. During our visit, it was fully dedicated to Halloween, creating a bold setup that feels slightly separate from the rest of the store and quite unique for this location.
Conclusion
In the end, this store delivers a truly impressive experience. It clearly follows the Don Don Donki DNA, yet takes it to another level. Instead of relying on a single theme, it embraces a patchwork of atmospheres, shifting constantly as you move through the store
It could feel messy and overloaded. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. This constant change makes the visit even more engaging and memorable, turning it into one of the most visually striking Don Don Donki stores, where you’re always moving from one world to another
Just like themed 7-Eleven stores in Taiwan, where each location builds a strong identity to stand out in a crowded market, Don Don Donki stores in Hong Kong also need distinctive concepts to compete — and this one clearly succeeds
