It’s rare to see a country with only one Costco, and New Zealand is one of them. This makes the Auckland warehouse a unique store to discover, as it serves the entire nation and shows how Costco adapts its offer to the local market — even with just one location
Located just outside Auckland’s city centre, this warehouse sits in the country’s largest urban area — the most logical place for a single Costco meant to serve all of New Zealand.

New Zealand’s grocery market is largely dominated by two major groups — Woolworths and Foodstuffs (New World and PAK’nSAVE). With only one warehouse, Costco is a much smaller player, yet it has quickly built a very strong popularity
Let’s Discover it!
A Touch of New Zealand Identity
Kia Ora (welcome) to a store that mixes bilingual signage with both English and Te Reo Māori
It immediately gives it a local touch, that you often see across New Zealand retail
A Surprisingly Large Local Selection
For a country of about 5 million people and just 1 Costco store, it’s surprising how large the local product selection is
You find abundant fresh produce like pears, apples, tomatoes, and onions
a strong showing in meat and seafood
and a wide array of branded items from well-known New Zealand makers — from peanut butter to jerky and the famous Manuka honey that appears in Costcos around the world
A Standout Local Brand
Among the local products, one brand really stood out: Grandpas – Love at Every Bite. Their range comes in bright, appealing packaging that immediately catches your eye and adds a fun, colourful touch to the fridges

A Classic Layout, Even Here
The layout follows the classic Costco setup, beginning with electronics, large TV displays, and the computer tables.
There isn’t anything very unusual in this first area -if you want to explore this store in more detail, you’ll find a full video tour at the end of this article

The only notable difference in electronics is the home appliances section, where in some countries Costco installs dedicated branded booths, but it’s not the case here

AirFryer Heaven
Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 must be AirFryer paradise!
The warehouses here carry around 5 models, while in most other countries you usually find only 1 or 2

Not Promoting the Online Jewel
One interesting detail is that, like Costco in China, this warehouse doesn’t feature any signage above the jewelry case promoting a local website
Since online sales and delivery services are not offered in these countries, Costco doesn’t highlight the website inside the store

Fresh Produce With Regional Flavours
The fresh produce section looks very nice, and on top of the local items already mentioned,

You also find products from:
– Fiji 🇫🇯
– Samoa 🇼🇸
– The Philippines 🇵🇭
That’s one of the interesting aspects of Costco’s regional sourcing: even in a single-store country, the assortment includes items from across the wider Pacific
A Scary Fun Highlight: Dracula Citrus
One product worth mentioning is the Dracula Citrus from Australia 🇦🇺. The packaging is fun, the colours stand out, and the demo we saw made it even more appealing

Ready-to-Eat Favourites
One of Costco’s landmarks is of course the rotisserie chicken (or Ngā Mīti Hukihuki),
here one chicken costs $9.99 NZD
roughly $5.75 USD 💵 or €4.95 EUR 💶
The ready-to-eat section also includes the classic salads, shrimp taco kits, sandwich platters, and even ramen kits, among other convenient daily products.
Sausage Feast
This section is surprisingly fun, with a wide range of sausage styles — from Polish and Taiwanese to Mexican, Chinese, and even Japanese mini wieners

What’s also interesting is the egg section, where the Farmer Brown eggs come in a very nicely designed box

Beyond the Usual Brands
Costco carries all the usual global brands, but what really stands out are the surprising versions you find here
Instead of the typical pasta labels like Garofalo or Barilla, this warehouse stocks Antonio Amato

The Coca-Cola aisle also offers unexpected options, including a large section of Vanilla Coke Regauler & Zero, a flavour especially popular with Asian consumers

a well-known New Zealand lemonade, L&P – Lemon & Paeroa
Small details like these make the grocery section especially fun to explore
A World of Fun Grocery Finds
Another fun detail in the grocery section is the mix of local delights and unexpected international products
You can spot the American Butt Rub barbecue seasoning, raw sugar from Fiji, Macau butter egg rolls, and even Danish cookies
Pet Treat Surprises
Speaking of fun international surprises, the pet treats section also stands out. Alongside classics, you find things like pig ears dog treats, and regional favourites like lamb and kangaroo tail treats that are especially popular around Australia and New Zealand. It’s another playful example of how the assortment reflects both local tastes and unexpected finds.

Levi’s at a Local Price
A landmark item you see in many Costco warehouses is Levi’s jeans

and here they’re priced at $64.99 NZD
~$37.50 USD 💵 or €32.20 EUR 💶.
A Beautiful Flower Display
One thing that always looks beautiful in Costco is the flower display, and this warehouse has an especially nice one

Seasonal Touches
It was close to Halloween during our visit, so the store featured a great skeleton 💀

A Fun Little Moment
During one of our visits, there must have been a promotion on a plush bear, because we spotted it hanging in a shopping cart and even placed on top of the diapers
Food Court Menu with Small Local Twist
The food court offers a classic, no-surprises menu with favourites like pizza, chicken tenders with fries, chunky steak pie, hot dogs, mango smoothies, iced lattes, and soda with refills.

The famous hot dog and soda combo costs $1.99 NZD
~ $1.15 USD 💵 or €0.98 EUR 💶
Membership Options
Costco New Zealand keeps things simple with only two membership levels:
Gold Star at $60 NZD → about $34.80 USD 💵 or €29.40 EUR 💶
Business at $55 NZD → about $31.90 USD 💵 or €26.95 EUR 💶

Conclusion
It’s a very interesting store to visit because, even as the only Costco in New Zealand, it carries a wide mix of local, regional, and international products
The warehouse is highly popular in a market dominated by two major players, offering a real breath of fresh air for shoppers
