WizArno – A Magical Journey Together 🪄

Wherever we travel, one of the first places we love to check out is 7-Eleven. It’s become our little home away from home and one of our favorite ways to discover everyday life in a new country.

When we arrived in China, we were pleasantly surprised to find 7-Eleven. Although it isn’t present in every major city, it quickly became one of our favorite stops because it makes it easy to switch between discovering local flavors and enjoying familiar products whenever you feel like it.

And if you can’t find a 7-Eleven, Lawson, the Japanese convenience store chain, is an excellent alternative that offers a very similar experience.

Let’s discover it! 🪄

The Store

One thing that really impresses us in China is the quality of the retail environment. Whether it’s a supermarket, a convenience store, or a shopping mall, the stores are usually modern and well maintained, and 7-Eleven is no exception.

What we also enjoy is that the stores stay true to the classic convenience store format, much like those in Singapore or the United States. Unlike the larger stores you’ll find in Taiwan or Japan, most locations are compact and focus on the essentials

The Products

This is where the experience becomes truly interesting

If you’re in the mood for a full Chinese experience, simply head to the hot food counter for delicious skewers, steamed buns, and other local specialties. Pair them with a local drink, and don’t forget to try iconic products like White Rabbit candy or Chicken feet

If you’d rather enjoy a more Asian convenience store experience, you’ll also find onigiri, ready-to-eat meals, instant noodles, and many products inspired by Japanese and other Asian favorites.

And if you’re simply looking for something more familiar, they sell Sandwiches, salads, coffee, Coca-Cola, Lay’s, Dove Chocolate, and many other international brands and products

The only thing that you will not find, The iconic Slurpee

If you’d like to explore the products in more detail, we’ve also created a dedicated guide to the products you’ll find inside 7-Eleven China

Prices

As with most convenience stores, expect to pay a 20-30% convenience premium on packaged products and drinks

On the other hand, ready-to-eat meals, hot food, and coffee often offer excellent value

Payments

Like almost everywhere in China, credit cards are not the preferred payment method. Instead, Alipay and WeChat Pay are the standard, and we highly recommend setting up at least one of them before you arrive. They will make your trip much easier!

While the staff are usually friendly and helpful, English isn’t always widely spoken, so having Alipay or WeChat Pay ready avoids unnecessary communication and makes every purchase quick and easy

Many 7-Eleven stores also offer self-checkout, making the process even more convenient

A Great Place to Take a Break

Even if they’re not as fun as the themed 7-Eleven stores in Taiwan, one thing we really appreciate about 7-Eleven China is the in-store seating area available in many locations. Instead of eating on the go, you can simply sit down and enjoy the food and drinks you’ve just purchased.

Whether you’ve chosen a ready-to-eat meal, some delicious skewers, steamed buns, or a coffee, the staff can usually heat up your meal for you, and you can enjoy it right there in the store

Conclusion

Even if 7-Eleven isn’t as widespread in China as it is in countries like Korea, where you’ll find one on almost every street corner, it’s always worth stepping inside whenever you come across one.

What we enjoy most is that familiar feeling of being away from home, yet feeling a little at home. At the same time, every visit gives you the opportunity to choose your own experience. You can dive into local Chinese flavors, explore products from across Asia, or simply enjoy something more familiar before continuing your journey.

The chain is also continuing to expand and evolve in China. During our travels, we even discovered a Budweiser-themed 7-Eleven in Guangzhou, showing that the brand is starting to experiment with more unique store concepts
